I am delighted to serve as the principal of Ilchester Elementary School (IES), and it is my distinct privilege to partner with you in the education of your child. I am grateful to be surrounded by such motivated and caring staff members who work very hard to meet and exceed student needs. In my 25 years of experience with the Howard County Public School System, I have served as an elementary and middle school teacher and school-based administrator. In addition, I was the Manager of Teacher Recruiting and Hiring and Director of Staff Relations prior to my appointment as principal at Stevens Forest Elementary School in 2014. Along with Mrs. Rook and our entire staff, we will work hard to continue the legacy of success at IES by fostering an inclusive environment that promotes collaborative relationships with families, students, staff, and community members. I strongly believe in the IES vision statement, "...to create life-long learners who possess the skills, confidence, and knowledge to meet the challenges that they face today and beyond." I firmly believe that family involvement in a child's education is of vital importance especially when one considers that parents and families serve as the child's first and most important teacher. Meaningful and engaging family-school partnerships have a profound impact on a child's physical, emotional, intellectual, and social development. I invite you to become an active member of our learning community. Again, I am thrilled to serve as the principal of this wonderful school.

I am so excited to have the opportunity to serve as the next assistant principal of Ilchester Elementary School and to become a part of such a wonderful community! I look forward to working with all of you in order to provide our students with a safe, nurturing, and academically rewarding environment. This is my sixteenth year in education and my first as part of the Howard County Public School System team. I spent fourteen years working within the St. Mary’s County Public School System district. I started my career as a classroom teacher, teaching second and then fifth grade. From there, I became an instructional resource teacher with responsibilities including providing training to teachers, analyzing school-related data, and providing reading support to students. I then served as an assistant principal for four years prior to moving away from the area. As an educator, I believe that we have to work together in order to support the emotional, social, and academic well-being of each student. I strongly support inclusive and differentiated practices within the classroom. Parental and community involvement is key when it comes to engaging our students in the learning process and assisting them in becoming productive and caring citizens. As part of the Ilchester team, I will work alongside Mr. Diaz and this staff to always do what is best for our students. I am delighted to be a part of such a caring and dedicated school community!
